Mechanical Keyboard Troubleshooting

For M4G mechanical keyboards. This guide covers the most common issues and the fastest fixes. Follow the steps in order to avoid wasting time.

A key works sometimes, sometimes not

If a single key becomes inconsistent, it’s usually a switch issue (or dirt/oxidation).

Quick Fix

  • Remove the keycap and clean the area (dust/hair).
  • If your model is hot-swappable: remove the switch and reinsert it firmly.
  • Test again. If the issue continues, replace the switch.
When it’s hardware

Signs of a faulty switch

  • The same key keeps failing even after cleaning and reinserting.
  • Key registers double clicks or no clicks repeatedly.

Liquid spill on the keyboard

Spills can cause short circuits or corrosion. Act fast.

Immediate Steps

  • Unplug the keyboard immediately (or turn it off if wireless).
  • Do not keep typing “to test it”.
  • Dry the surface, then leave it to dry completely before trying again.
Important

What usually happens

  • If liquid reached the PCB, the keyboard may be permanently damaged.
  • Even if it works at first, corrosion can appear later.

RGB is off / stuck / not changing

Most RGB issues are configuration-related (shortcuts or software profiles).

Quick Fix

  • Check the keyboard manual shortcut for RGB mode/brightness.
  • If your model supports software: open M4G Software and apply a different lighting profile.
  • Make sure settings are saved/applied (some models require “Apply/Save”).
If RGB still doesn’t work

Next steps

  • Try another USB port (avoid hubs).
  • Test on another PC to rule out OS conflicts.

Keyboard types by itself (random characters)

This is often caused by a faulty switch, debris, or hardware damage.

Quick Fix

  • Disconnect the keyboard and inspect the keys (stuck keycap / debris).
  • If hot-swappable: identify the problem key and replace that switch.
  • If not hot-swappable: contact support for guidance.
Hardware warning

Common causes

  • Faulty switch causing continuous input.
  • Liquid damage or PCB issue.

A full row (or column) stopped working

If an entire line of keys stops, it’s usually a hardware/PCB path issue.

What you can try

  • Try another USB port and another cable if possible.
  • Test on another PC to rule out software issues.
Most likely cause

Hardware issue

  • PCB / matrix line issue (needs inspection).
  • If the keyboard is under warranty, contact support.

Wireless stopped working (Bluetooth / 2.4G)

Usually fixed by relinking, charging, or switching modes correctly.

Quick Fix

  • Charge the keyboard (low battery can cause unstable wireless).
  • Confirm you are in the correct mode (wired / BT / 2.4G).
  • Forget the device on your PC/phone and pair again.
Manual relink

Relink steps (generic)

  • Enter pairing mode using the model’s shortcut (check manual/software).
  • For 2.4G: try another USB port for the dongle and pair again.
  • If it still fails, test wireless on another device to confirm.

Keyboard is completely dead (no input)

If the keyboard shows no response at all, it may be a hardware issue.

Quick checks

  • Try a different USB cable and a different USB port.
  • Avoid USB hubs/adapters. Plug directly into the PC.
  • Test on another PC.
If nothing works

Likely hardware

  • If the keyboard still doesn’t respond, it likely needs inspection.
  • If it’s under warranty, contact support for the next steps.

General known fixes (quick checklist)

These fixes solve many common cases before you assume a defect.

Checklist

  • Restart your PC and try again.
  • Use a direct USB port (no hub).
  • Disable conflicting tools (macro/RGB/remappers).
  • Try the keyboard on another device.
